I personally love to photograph landscapes. Nature, mountains, snow, cityscapes are places I have all grown up taking photos in and landscapes are something absolutely love to photograph. Nature is something I find beautiful and when I'm sad a beautiful walk in nature is something that cheers me up. My family usually save up money and sacrifice other things in our lives to go on holidays and see beautiful things.
When I hear the word landscape I think about Nature, City, mountains snow, darkness, green, night, colourful, abstract, sunset.
My ideal landscapes are Cityscapes as they look beautiful with the lights and the buildings illuminated in the night sky.
From my bedroom window the landscape I can see is my garden and behind it my local park with a lot of big trees too.
It's a very nice view. My relationship with the natural world is very good, I love nature it gives me purpose and meaning and when i'm encountering the natural world and I want to photograph every great moment of it. Landscapes are interesting and inspiring and are a photo everyone enjoys

I can see abstract interpretations of nature in the pictures. The left is a black background that has a tree stuck on on it and the right is a white background that has small black pieces stuck on it. When I look at these images I feel a sense of relaxation as the saturation and contrast of black and white is a very nice feature. In my opinion I want to recreate photos that look like the one on the right as I like the style of it I would cut out little bits of card and turn it into one of the natural landscapes I have taken. The artist has removed certain parts of the landscape because they want the tree to be the main focus of. the image and they also want there to be a significant contrast from black to white in the images. For how they were processed I assume the one on the left was crafted perhaps cutting out a tree and sticking it or scanning it on to a black background.
Minimilistic landscapes- Photograms
In this task we had to make our own paper landscapes recreating it from our own landscapes that we took photos for homework. I made three of these, the first one was from a cityscape that I captured in London, the second one was a picture with a street and some very distinctive clouds and the third one was the railway track when it was snowing. I recreated these images because they all had unique features that could be presented nicely on the paper. The colour contrast from black to white is the key notability in this style of paper landscape as it elevates the inner picture within it. Making these provided a challenge, obviously trying to recreate a photo with a wide variety of colour and lots of minuet detail with just black card. However as I formed them I found putting in every detail wasn’t fundamental and the images became more abstract.
Landscape homework
In this task we had to take at least 30 photos some old, some new and present them as the first task to get the constructive landscape campaign kicked off I took a variety of abstract images that I have taken over different periods of time. These images are symbolic of events in my life and my passion for taking photographs.
The idea of landscape
In this photo the composition is a light beige colour contrasted to a ashy grey turf with gives the image an uncomfortable feeling as being in the image would feel surreal. The photo is claimed as the first war photograph which was taken in the crimean war, the photographer could relate to these photos as he was putting his life at risk taking the photos. The vantage point is fairly straight, there is nothing around giving the photo an eerie feel. We are very close to the landscape in this image allowing us to pick up all of the shells and rocks in the image. The photo gives a depressive feeling representing the hard and brutal realities of warfare. The rocks form abstract formations to exemplify the post apocalyptic vibe.
In this photo there is quite a significant contrast, the sky background makes the image abstract and makes the man riding the horse the main focus of the image. Similarly to the other photo this photo is also taken in the crimean war and the photographer has put himself at high risk to take the photo, of the man riding the horse. the vantage point is flat and to the side of the horse the man riding the horse almost looks like he's a silhouette. We are fairly close to the picture as we can clearly see all the details and complexities of the horse. The mood given in this photo could be sense of perseverance and patriotism as the the man is bravely charging into what could be his demise.
Back to the future
In the first photo the landscape described is a lonely beach setting with a black and white genre with dark clouds and an eerie shadow in the distance which could be a boat or a dock. On the right image there is a colourful frame with randoms fragments of rock with a picture of the sea in the middle. The differences between the photos is that the left is black and white and the right is colour. Furthermore, the left picture is just a regular photo whereas the left one is distorted by some sort of abstract frame. However, they are also similar because they are both contain the sea. The best words to describe these landscapes are abstract, quirky, eerie, atmospheric and cold. I would prefer to live in the left photo as it would be calming to sit at the beach and look into the distance.
Trip documentation
My favourite artist on the trip was John Davies this is because I like his use of infra red film to create a natural environment. The landscape of trees is something I like because I find nature beautiful and taking photos of natural photos is something I really enjoy and something I'm very passionate about as It makes me feel at peace with the world. I also Davies' use of black and white photography because the saturation of the trees in comparison to the background is very nice. The theme of the expedition on the bottom floor which was my favourite was the theme of space. The artists use a wide range of colours and a different unique object
in their work then displays them on a black canvas these might also be my joint favourite style of images by Mandy Barker because I like how abstract and interesting each image is, it really catches the eye. I can also see a wide range of patterns in every image which really contrasts well to the colour providing a captivating image.
Uta Barth
Uta barth is a landscape photographer who takes blurry images of city's, buildings, parks and all sorts. She composes her photo by lining up a nice photo but taking it blurry instead by un focusing her camera, she does this to demonstrate that if you look closely and carefully then anything can be beautiful and fascinating. The genre Barth uses is mainly cityscapes, she finds an everyday city area and captures a photo, but because of her unique style the photos looks like a beautiful merge of colours making her style abstract and unique. Uta Barth takes and composes her photos in Los Angeles which is a city full of life and colour in the United States of America. Some of her photos are taken from inside however the majority of them are taken outside. The truthful depiction of her photos is inverting the notion of background and foreground, to elaborate on this depiction her main theme is work addresses such as perception, optical illusion and non-place. Her purpose of her photos is the feel of movement, carrying her viewers from one photo the next. In my opinion, the effect it has today is how we are so busy in life that sometimes we forget to appreciate what is around us, this is because her photos are blurred suggesting that we see the world in the wrong form. In her work she explores the details and quality of light and its ability to overwhelm and entirely undermine human vision.
Uta Bath response in school
In these images I experimented by taking blurred photos around the school using inspiration from landscape photographer Uta Barth. The photos I captured were landscapes and I used a variety of different areas around the school when taking my photographs, such as the walkway, the concourse, the basketball courts and the nature within the school. The way I took these photos was using the technique depth of field. By emloying this technique I developed my skills in being able to take these photographs such as using a wide range of angles and incorporating contrasts of light within my photos.
WWW: I like the composition of my images. I thought I hard about exactly where to place the frame when I took the photo. The forms and shapes of the images seem well balanced.
EBI: I feel likeI need to be more patient when I take my photographs. Sometimes I rush the process and I know taking more time could help me improve.

Blurred photos
When taking these photos I had to take more blurred-style photos but this time in an around my area. These photos were all composed in Lee Green using Uta Barth as inspiration for the photographs and the ways she frames and composes her work. I decided that the best photos that I have taken were the ones outside in the night as it gives a unique eerie sense to the photographs. However, I enjoyed experimenting with some of the other ones I took.

Diptycs
In this task I had to combine two of my blurred photos from my homework and combine them together if I think they fit. In my opinion I think I could have taken some more photos and also could have tried to blur the photos even more even though it was quite challenging to do on my phone. I liked some of the photo combinations that were put together trying to match shapes, colours and themes. I tried to put the photo combos together for a reason comparing similarities in the images and a range of tonal contrasts. The task also helped me to improve/refine my work and view my photos in a different point of view. My main basis to choosing the photos together was the area they were in, as you can see the pictures are combined in the area they are in.
WWW:Captured a unique variety of photos.
EBI: Take more photos with more blurriness if possible.

The similarities I noticed between these photos are that they both contained a centre of light and they both had similar lines of darker shadow on both sides. The main light in the images illuminates the rest of the photo adding a nice contrast of dark to light and creating unique shadows in the process. They have both have a similar tonal contrast however, they don't share the same background features, as one is a wall the other is the dusk night sky. The camera focuses on the light subject of the photo.
Dafna Talmor
In this photo Dafna Talmor focuses on how she composes her images and what the images mean to her. She mentions that she felt overwhelmed by the images she took outside as she found it hard getting the perfect frame and was overwhelmed by the countless number of possibility however she learnt her own way of composing photos and realised not everything has to be perfect in the image to look good. She says that she has always been interested in a utopian space that doesn't exist. Which has led to the craft of her abstract artwork such as displayed in the back to the future collage above on my page.

Slides
In this task we had to make our own slides inspired by Dafna Talmor's slides. Firstly, we chose the landscapes that we wanted to use, then we had to make the landscapes into the size of a in a negative form. Then we had to get creative by adding coloured paper to the landscapes and also scratching or cutting parts out of them, this was done to take Dafna Talmors's ideas and implement them into our own work. I chose to use coloured shapes with my slides because I like the use of geometry and angles when I'm composing work.

Yi Dai
Yi Dai is a visual artist born in Changsha, China in 1989. He composed several collages themed with putting hundreds of landscapes on the same piece of paper to try and form an image. For example for this image he took a picture of the landscape every 10 seconds from a bus window and displayed hundreds of them in one big beautiful collage. He has multiple similar but abstract designs such as this one which he composes using similar methods such as taking the photos out of planes, buses, trains, cars and other various vehicles. The pictures are taken very spontaneously and aren't necessarily individually beautiful. However, all of the images put together can create a picture of uttermost beauty and the sense of an escape to nature. The photographer also creates a sense of motion as if you look closely you can see a developing picture of his journey. This particular piece of work is called inertia, and the images captured were from the bus ride he took from Edinburgh in Scotland to London in England. The angles of the photos were pretty straight and not really at an angle and were taken from a long distance, with a slight distortion of the bus window. The message that the photographer may be implementing is that we should all appreciate and explore the outside world.
Other pieces of Yi Dais work
Yi Dais work is very abstract and intelligent. This is because she uses a different pattern techniques to create one big picture which is why all the little collages are so effective when creating a piece like this. Furthermore, each piece of work unlocks a different colour which creates variety between his pieces. Her technique of taking one image in the same exact position every 10 seconds is very clever as it unlocks natural beauty. Another interesting technique he uses is how he displays the images on the paper, it seems to be done at random with different positions of each photograph, which is what creates the whole notion.
A message that may be given out is that little things can be crafted into something big and beautiful.

30 Photos homework inspired by chosen artist Yi Dai
In this task we had to take photos to help create ideas and experiment for our final piece. Additionally we also had to take inspiration from our chosen artist mine being Yi Dai. I composed these photos by capturing photos on my bike ride from school to home to football training and then back home. I did this because I took inspiration from Yi Dais Rural bus journey photos and used my own idea of cityscape/street photos to hopefully put together in a big final piece. I used a variety of different technique’s that we have used in lessons such as, landscapes, blurry photos, street photography and contrasts of light and dark. Overall, I think I did well although I could have taken a wider variety of photos and used more techniques although it was difficult while riding a bike. Furthermore, my main idea is documenting lots of little photos to make one big photo which means they don't necessarily need to be individually amazing.
WWW: I used a variety of different light source’s to create this photograph. I was interested in the tonal contrasts that could be achieved by using lights in the city and observing the patterns they make and the arrangements of shadows and highlights.
EBI: Next time I intend to frame the image more accurately, looking more carefully around the edges of the viewfinder/screen before I press the shutter although again not too important with the kind of image I'm aiming to compose for my final piece.

Experiment 1
This was my first experiment in the building blocks for my final piece, I experimented with a small scale version of the technique I want to use which was inspired by Yi Dai. I used the photos I took for my homework to create this experiment, using the darker photos around the edges and the lighter photos in the centre. I took inspiration from photographer Yi Dai when taking the photographs, I did this by taking a photo every now and again on my bike ride from school to home to football training to capture slightly more random in the moment photos to form together to make a final piece. This was a similar concept to Yi Dais work when she took a photo every 10 seconds on his bus journey from London to Edinburgh. I structured the photos in a unique fashion making them uneven to each other to really capture that abstract vibe. I really like the tonal contrasts between the edge and middle photos and its something I want to develop my skills in for the real piece. However I know there is still much room for improvement and I can develop a further understanding on how to do better, for example I could cut the images out neater and make sure there isn't too many white gaps. For my final piece I want to use the main themes of colour and structure a big collage of landscapes in a similar form to this using a colour per every few rows. I'm very interested in the tonal and colour contrasts I can form in my final piece and see what the total outcome of every contrast will look like I want to also use a range of different techniques in every landscape to form my final piece.
36 photos homework exploring colour themes for final piece
For this homework I captured some more landscape photographs to add to contribute to my final piece. In these photos I took Landscape photographs in a variety of different places, photographing different things. My dominant theme is colours and light, I experimented with different lighting, techniques and colours to create a meaningful display of photographs. A lot of these images were taken in the lake district, where I went during half term. I wanted to explore the theme of nature and capture a lot of photos to go in my colour brackets. Some of my images were taken at night because I like to use natural illumination of lights in the city, such as cars, traffic lights, lampposts, etc. Furthermore, capturing darker photos can be used as the colour black in my final piece. I am satasfied with these photos and they will help me going forward when crafting my final piece. For my final piece I have come to the conclusion that I need to refine my idea because sticking down lots of landscapes is going to take a long time. Instead I think I am going to craft a similar idea but instead digitally instead of sticking every photo down. Also I might display the photos In 4 different colour sections instead os spiriling down.
Experiment 2
For this I further experimented with my landscape project, inspired by my chosen photographer Yi Dai. In my last experiment I decided to cut out my photographs and stick them down, however after further consideration, I came to the conclusion that this method was time consuming and not as affective as it could be. Therefore, I chose to do it digitally instead, using photoshop as the source to my experiment. I uploaded a series of images I took and organised them into 4 colour groups: White, Green, Black and Blue. From there I composed the photo by fitting them all to equal sizes and put them in the 4 different corners by colour. Additionally, I would like to take this piece and use it to further implement ideas exploring with photoshops and prints. I think this was a good basis to start with however it can definitely be refined.

Photoshop process for experiment 2
Experiment 3
For this piece I decided to further experiment with the use of small images to create one big image. To create this I first chose one of my landscapes, I selected one of a waterfall and trees because it captures unique patterns that would help with this piece. Next I printed three copies of this landscape in A4. One being red one being green and one being yellow. Next I cut out and stuck down different parts of each colour and stuck them together to make a pattern. I think this idea was good and original and the result came out well. However, it took a long time due to all of the cutting and sticking. next experiment i would like to use photoshop to further incorporate my landscapes with new techniques.

Crafting process for experiment three
Double exposure photoshop experiment
Photoshop process
I decided to explore the technique of double exposure using Photoshop by incorporating my own face into the composition. The aim was to create a visually striking and conceptually engaging self-portrait that explores the juxtaposition of different elements to convey a unique narrative. In the initial stages of the project, I conducted research on double exposure techniques and studied various examples using Pinterest to gain inspiration I also used youtube to guide me through the steps of creating a double exposure landscape but the challenge was incorporating my face into the theme. I then took photos from my face value page and landscapes one featuring a close-up of my face and the other highlighting a textured landscape with contrasting elements that makes the final piece stand out. Combining these images in Photoshop allowed me to experiment with blending modes, opacity adjustments, and layer masking to achieve the desired effect. The colour palette played a crucial role in conveying the mood and emotions within the image. In the image with the sunglasses I opted for a muted and desaturated colour scheme to maintain a sense of unity between the two exposures. This decision helped to emphasize the emotional depth of the self-portrait while maintaining a cohesive visual balance. Throughout the process, I encountered some technical challenges, such as achieving seamless blending between the two exposures. Experimenting with different blending modes and refining the layer masks proved to be essential in overcoming these challenges. Additionally, I had to carefully consider the lighting and shadows to ensure a realistic and convincing final result. In conclusion, the double exposure self-portrait x constructed landscape provided a valuable opportunity to explore the technical and conceptual aspects of digital photography and editing. The experiment not only enhanced my Photoshop skills but also allowed me to delve into the complexities of self-expression and storytelling through visual imagery. These skills will help my to develop for the upcoming component two exam.
Final piece
This was my final piece for constructed landscapes, after a lot of refining, improving and learning from previous experiments I came to the conclusion that creating something digital was far more effective than creating something physical for the style of work I chose. To create this piece, I was playing around with contact sheets, and creating nice collages of my best landscapes as this followed a similar pattern to my inspired artist yi dai, I contrasted the contact sheet with an overlay of an image to create these abstract images, I am very happy with the outcome however if I had excess time in the exam then I might have made a book.
